a sense of history...

this is the back of the sewing machine manual for my new/old machine, a lovely bernina 1005 that belonged to my husband's nanna... she was a dressmaker who sadly i never got to meet... i was delighted to see that she had written on the back of the manual "(Exhibition) August 1989" - the place where she perhaps first looked at the machine or maybe even purchased it... it seems like such a nanna thing to do... i'm taking it to be serviced in the coming week and it pleases me no end that i will soon be sewing on her machine, hopefully some of her skills will rub off...

That does make it more special! My grandmother recently gave me many of her knitting books. They came with her from England when she was a teenager and they have her writing in the margins. They mean the world to me.

Oh, that's so lovely to have something from her. I never met my nannas and don't have anything from them either. Hope you have many years of pleasure from her machine!

Lovely. Your Nanna will be 'with' you every time you use the machine now. Maybe you'll have to add the service date under her writing on the back of the book?!
Thankyou for yr kind comment on in my blog.

I'm sure if you bought a machine to day it wouldn,t last as long. I think previous generations took greater care of their thing as the money just wasn't there to replace them. Treasure it greatly.

You're so lucky! I wish I had something of my nanna's like that, as we are both crafty gals, but I've only got a brooch, which I treasure.

my mom writes dates on things too. it's interesting to know when/where things came from.
