mannered...

i've oftened wondered, but never enquired of anyone if there is such a thing as comment ettiquette in the blogging world... i like to think of myself as well-mannered, but i must confess to sometimes floundering about in pursuit of the best way to respond to the lovely comments received... blogger certainly doesn't make comment response easy, and while i'm aware that there are probably things that would ease my way, i find myself without the precious time and know-how to implement them... so, i try where possible to email a response and failing that leave a comment in reply... knowing what a thrill it is to receive comments, i figure this is probably alright...

in the mean time, all this blogging and sewing has seen some serious deterioration in my eyesight... so i am sporting new spectacles and am about to consult miss spade who i know will advocate the virtue of the hand written thank-you note... let's hope such traditions never leave us...

Your new glasses look great; and that book really interesting. I'm unsure of comment etiquette, too. Perhaps someone like Kate should publish something covering these matters!?

I am glad I am in such good company. I too am unsure. I would hate to be considered impolite out of blogger ignorance. Particularly when I am so excited and appreciative when people give such lovely feedback. Often I can't seem to find an email addy so I too leave a reciprocal comment. I would love to find out what is true good form.
btw - Your thank you note is such a wonderful sentiment.

i think it's so hard! i too want to respond to such lovely comments... some people do so individually - some do it in the comment section.... i have found it way way to hard to respond to every single person [esp. when they are anon. and don't have an email...]

our manners systems are certainly changing as the computer takes over even more!

love the photos!

I agree with you on what you should do. I e-mail new people who comment on my blog, as I have done it to me and what a thrill it is!

Love the glasses

Sometimes I get lovely emails after I leave a comment, but I don't have time to do the same. I try to leave comments on the blogs I like.
I like your new glasses. Mine are clear and I can never find them!

Sarah, you must be a mind reader !
I don't know what to do either, I'm always really grateful to anybody that takes the time to leave me comment, but I don't know what is best- reply with an e-mail or leave a comment ???
I usually end up doing both, and before I know it, it's 2am !.
Someone please advise us terribly polite girls : )

I find it terribly confusing, too, particularly when there's no email address. Oh, the perils of living in the modern world!

I like your new glasses. Your posts are gift to us and our replies are thank you notes to you for the gift of your picture and words.

so sweet!

I love etiquette books. When I was a kid I would read them all the time. For fun. Er, yes.

I still read them. I just find them really interesting!

I do try to respond to comments (as a group, usually) because it irks me at times when NO response at all is given, after many people have written. Sometimes I go and comment on the commenter's blog, just to be sure. But I don't know what the 'rule' is, if any.
